Some of you out there who are reading this article might have the problem of dealing with an aggressive dog. These dogs could possibly be from other pet owners, or even your own. There are a lot of pet owners out there, who are rearing dogs for the first time, so they aren't aware of the possible warning signs, or things that they don't know they are doing that causes their dogs to become aggressive. This article is dedicated on educating you with the different types of dog aggression.
Different types of Aggression
You may not know this, because as far as some people know, an aggressive dog is a bad dog. However, knowing the types of dog aggression can help you learn how to deal with them, and even train them to behave accordingly.
Although dog breeds can be a factor for dog aggression, there are also other things to be considered. There are way too many types of aggression however I'll list some of the important and most common type of aggression that pet owners are often faced with. There is Dominant Aggression, Territorial Aggression, Fear Aggression and Prey or Predatorial Aggression.
Dog's who have dominant aggression, are those who think they are the Alpha male or the leader of the "pack", in your case, your household or your family members.
Dog's that suffer from territorial aggression think that they have to protect their domain, from strangers and sometimes from their owners as well, when they think that they are the dominant dog.
However dogs that are aggressive due to fear are not the same as dominant or territorial dogs. These types of dogs are not as sociable as other dogs and are born shy. Some fear biters can also be a result of bad breeding or have even been abused by previous pet owners thus resulting in fear biting.
Last is predatorial aggression. This can be attributed to the breed of dog that you have. Some breeds of dogs were made to hunt for their prey. They can easily mistake a running child as a prey, and try to catch them and bite them. This can either lead to serious injury or even worse death.
Knowledge is just half the battle; now that you are aware of the different types of aggression among dogs, you can properly take assess what type of discipline or training that is best to tame your dog.
