Tips on Feeding Giant Breed Pups

Giant breed dogs are those that have an adult average weight of about over 90 pounds. Borzoi, Kuvasz, and Bullmastiff are just three of the recognized extra-large dog breeds. If you've got a pet from this category, you need to make sure that it gets the proper nutrition - no more, no less - since it's already naturally big in size. Whether you're buying its dog food online or in brick-and-mortar shops, you should buy one with a recipe that's made for giant breeds.
If you got your pet from a breeder, you need to initially give it the same brand that the breeder was feeding it. If you wish to feed it a different brand, you need to do it gradually. You can start by giving 25 percent of the new brand and 75 percent of the old brand. Bit by bit, reverse the ratio until you're feeding him 100 percent of the new brand. This is to prevent any possible problems in its digestive system.
When choosing the new food for your puppy, you can select dry kibbles or the canned formula. You can also give it a combination of both. This would usually depend on your choice or according to your pet's preference.
The best puppy food ration per day for your giant breed pet would be three small servings. This should go on until it reaches its sixth month. This is to help your puppy avoid having a bloated tummy. Remember that a puppy's tummy has a much smaller capacity than that of an adult dog.
Even if you're giving the best dog food to your pet, you still need to watch out about any extras that you feed it. You should take care that it doesn't eat any chocolate, grapes, raisins, tomatoes, and other human food products that can be harmful to your pet. You should always avoid giving them table scraps all the time, too.
If you wish to give your pet treats, it would be better to purchase those which are made for your puppy. It will not only make it happy, but will also provide it supplementary nutrients.
Just keep in mind to always consider the size, age, and activity of your pet when thinking about feeding it. Dog food that's manufactured by reputable pet nutrition companies spell out in their packaging instructions their feeding recommendations. You should also ask a vet about the proper food quantities and other feeding guidelines, in case you're not sure about them.
