How To Know Your Dog Through Grooming

Part of showing care and concern for your dog is by grooming it. When you groom your dog, you get attached to it. Your dog will love and obey you if you give it more attention. There is no other better way of showing attention and getting close to your dog better than grooming it.
If you groom your dog regularly, you will be best placed to detect any health problems on the dog before the condition gets serious. A longer haired dog can need grooming everyday although if you find it difficult to find the time you should at least make the time every couple of days or once per week at the very minimum. In the process of grooming you will be able to detect any skin problems which might be as a result of a reaction or irritation, skin cuts and skin swelling. By so doing you can easily get medical assistance from your vet before the condition gets worse. Also something else worth mentioning here is if you detect a change in your dog's temperament, or notice your dog behaviour has changed during grooming, this might be an indication of illness on the part of your dog and thus you should investigate this further and if you determine any symptoms of illness that may require special treatment or medication then you can immediately call your vet and again you will have spotted the illness at an early stage and prevented more serious re-percussions for you and your dog.
Trimming your dog's Nails:
All dogs need their nails trimmed. Some more than others. It is important to trim your dog's nail as a health measure, regularly doing so can prevent serious foot injuries. If your dog is exposed to regular exercise on concrete surfaces from time to time, this will trim its nails more often as opposed to a dog that spends time on grassy surfaces. In both cases, it is your obligation as a dog owner to check the paws of your dog and if need be, trim the nails. Never cut too much off the nails, you cannot trim very long nails to very short in one time, you need to regularly trim a small amount of the dogs nails.
If you find it necessary, you can take your pet to a groomer or a vet to trim its nails. You can also purchase a nail trimmer and do the trimming yourself. There are various types of nail trimmers available and if you don't like to use the cutting type there are also electric ones which just gently grind or file down the nail. As a health measure, your dogs pays and nails should be checked regularly and if needed trimmed once every month. This will ensure that the nail growth on your pet is controlled. If you leave the nails for long without trimming them, it will be hard to cut them as this will hurt the dog. Consistent trimming of your dog's nails should be a routine part of grooming your dog and means that you only deal with small nail parts which should not be a problem for you.
